Telangana is a part in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India and use to be a part of Hyderabad State which was ruled by the Nizams. With the states of Maharashtra to the north and north-west, Karnataka to the west, Chhattisgarh to the north-east and Odisha to the east.
The Telangana area is 114,840 square kilometres (44,340 sq mi),
and a population of 35,286,757 (2011 census) which is 41.6% of Andhra Pradesh state population.
The Telangana region comprises 10 districts:
Hyderabad,
Adilabad,
Khammam,
Karimnagar,
Mahbubnagar,
Medak,
Nalgonda,
Nizamabad,
Rangareddy, and
Warangal.
On December 9, 2009, the Government for the formation of the Telangana state. But the decision to form the new state was put on hold on December 23, 2009. Since December 2009, the Telangana state movement has intensified.

Hyderabad state in 1956(in yellowish green). After reorganization in 1956, Regions of the state west of Red and Blue lines merged with Bombay and Mysore states respectively and rest of the state(Telangana) was merged with Andhra state to form Andhra Pradesh state
